While competencies reflect what a person can do, character determines what a person will do. Character influences every choice a person makes about what to do in any given situation, and as such, character development is the central component of this complimentary member workshop.
Based on Ivey research – “Leadership on Trial: A Manifesto for Leadership Development” (see excerpt below), the Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute developed content to teach participants about why Leader Character matters and how it impacts excellence in decision making and judgement. You will learn how your own Leader Character reflects your ability to successfully identify and mitigate risks and influences your success in negotiating with stakeholders, colleagues and suppliers.
This workshop will explore:
INSTRUCTOR
Kimberley Milani, Director, Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership, at the Ivey Business School as she introduces the concept of Leadership Character – what it is and how it influences how we lead. Based on over a decade of the Institute’s research, she will debunk the myth that character is something we are born with or set in place at an early age, but - akin to a muscle - can be exercised and strengthened throughout one’s lifetime. She will also reveal how character reaches far beyond the realm of ethics and is a powerful component of leadership that supports superior performance, underpins effective decision-making, helps when engaging with internal and external stakeholders and contributes to individual and organizational well-being.
